
R.M.A. v. Blue Springs School District
Status: Victory
On February 27, 2018, GLAD Law, along with Lambda Legal, R.M.A. v. Blue Springs School District, filed an amicus brief in support of the plaintiff, R.M.A.’s claim of sex discrimination.
In this case, Blue Springs School District denied a boy access to the restroom and locker room facilities that are available to other boys because he is transgender.
The Missouri Human Rights Act prohibits disparate treatment on the basis of sex, and excluding people because they are transgender. The school’s treatment of R.M.A. is discrimination, and our brief argued that the Court of Appeals should reverse their judgment dismissing the claim.
