LGBTQ+ internships at GLAD Law allow you to get involved first-hand in the right for equal treatment and protection under the law for LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV, whether or not you yourself are part of the LGBTQ+ community. GLAD Law is at the cutting edge of the historic fight for full equality and justice. Through impact litigation, education, and public policy work, GLAD Law’s precedent-setting work has established anti-discrimination laws for LGBTQ+ people and protected the rights of those with HIV throughout New England.

GLAD Law Answers Intern

GLAD Law is currently accepting applications for Fall 2025. 

The Communications & Public Education Department is looking for an intern to assist GLAD Law Answers, GLAD Law’s legal helpline, in helping share confidential legal information, assistance, and referrals with LGBTQ+ and HIV-positive community members.  

Typical projects may include but are not limited to:  

‣ Making and responding to calls, emails, mail, and other communications from community members 

‣ Entering, tracking, and reporting intakes within GLAD Law Answer’s database 

‣ Attending community events, such a Name Change and other Know Your Rights events 

‣ Some data entry and administrative tasks  

‣ Maintaining and updating GLAD Law Answers and other Know Your Rights materials (will be guided)  

‣ Professional development opportunities 

Qualifications  

‣ Should have a strong desire to make contributions to the LGBTQ+ and HIV-positive communities and preferably have some experience in an office setting.  

‣ The ability to complete self-directed projects is necessary  

‣ Strong organizational, research, and communications skills are required  

‣ Attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to work with a team are critical  

‣ Excellent time management skills  

‣ Public speaking or outreach experience and interest  

No prior legal experience is required, interest in public interest law and community support work is a plus  

Compensation & Location  

Stipends of up to $3,000 are available for interns who meet minimum hour requirements. Interns have an expected start date in September and end date in December. This internship can be in-person or hybrid.

Legal Intern

GLAD Law is looking for highly motivated legal interns to help advance our work. Our legal interns perform extensive legal research and writing related to all areas of GLAD Law’s work and may have opportunities to:

  • Support active GLAD Law litigation.
  • Engage in public policy advocacy and public education.
  • Work one-on-one with GLAD Law attorneys on research assignments.
  • Attend GLAD Law’s Legal Department meetings other case/project-related meetings.

GLAD Law welcomes applications from 2L and 3L law students who:

  • Possess excellent legal research and writing skills.
  • Have a demonstrated commitment to tearing down outdated laws and stereotypes that have denied full equality for LGBTQ+ people and those with HIV/AIDS.
  • Have a passion for securing racial and economic justice.

Our Fall and Spring term internships are remote eligible and can be either full-time or part-time. Summer internships are in-person and full-time. Stipends of up to $3,000 are available for legal interns who meet minimum hour requirements, depending on restrictions imposed by their school.

Special Events and Fundraising Intern

GLAD Law is now accepting applications for Fall 2025.

The Development Team at GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD Law) is searching for a Special Events and Fundraising Interns to help us raise support and funds needed to secure ground-breaking legal victories, conduct policy advocacy, and educate the public on the most pressing civil rights issues impacting LGBTQ+ people and people with HIV/AIDS. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to have an impact on LGBTQ+ civil rights and may be considering a career in the non-profit sector, fundraising, or event planning.

Typical projects may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with sponsor and donor follow-up, event planning, and logistics for GLAD Law’s regional and signature events
  • Assisting with data cleanup projects and updates in GLAD Law’s donor database (Salesforce)
  • Conducting vendor, venue, donor, and prospect research
  • Assisting with mailings and other fundraising support as needed
  • Engaging in professional development opportunities such as attending conferences, networking, and watching webinars
  • Leading fundraising event volunteer coordination
  • Leading silent auction curation and logistics
  • Attending weekly Development Department team meetings

Qualifications:

  • Interest in non-profit development and/or event planning
  • Passion for social justice, LGBTQ+ and HIV+ rights, and racial and economic justice
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to ask questions, as well as the ability to take direction
  • Working well independently and as part of a small team
  • Showing initiative and follow-through in a dynamic environment
  • Familiarity with Salesforce or Microsoft Office Suite a plus

Fall 2025 Internship:

Partial $1,500 and full $3,000 stipends are available for interns who meet minimum hour requirements. The requirement for a full-time stipend is 300 hours within a 6-month period, and the minimum for a partial stipend is 200 hours. To qualify for a full stipend, someone working 20 hours per week would need a 15-week internship; someone with a shorter internship (12 weeks) would need to work 25 hours per week.

Interns are expected to start in late August or early September and end in December. This is a hybrid position with required in-office hours, attendance at GLAD Law’s fall events, and the option to work remotely a portion of the time. Interns should be based in the Boston area.

The fall interns will assist in planning GLAD Law’s 26th Annual Spirit of Justice Awards Dinner and lead planning for GLAD Law Forward’s HoliGay Party in Providence, RI.
