Rose v. YMCA of Nashua
Status: Victory
GLAD intervened on behalf of a lesbian couple and their family in New Hampshire who were denied a family membership rate at the YMCA in Nashua, winning an agreement from the YMCA to revisit their policy and to extend a family membership to our clients. When our clients applied for a family membership at the YMCA for themselves and their children, they were told that because they are not married, they were not eligible for such a rate. The YMCA said that one of the women and the children could receive the family rate, but the other woman would have to buy a separate adult membership at a cost of several hundred dollars. After some initial negotiations with the YMCA, the YMCA agreed to revisit their policy and to extend a family membership to our clients.
