20th Annual LGBTQ Families Day

Monday, June 2, 2025, is the 20th Annual LGBTQ Families Day, a time to celebrate the many families with LGBTQ people in them. The event aims to raise awareness of the diversity, joys, and challenges of all LGBTQ families—found, formed, and chosen—and to show their strength, elevate their collective stories, and reaffirm allies’ support.

We encourage you to participate by:

  • Posting or sharing on any social media channel on June 2, 2025, in celebration and support of LGBTQ families, and including the hashtag #LGBTQFamiliesDay. Suggested content: a family photo/video, family anecdote, image of an LGBTQ-inclusive kids’ book, or simple message of support.
  • Following the hashtag #LGBTQFamiliesDay throughout the day and sharing the stories, images, and thoughts from other participants.
  • Celebrating in your community in whatever way uplifts the voices and experiences of LGBTQ families.

Over the past 20 years, LGBTQ Families Day has engaged parents across the LGBTQ spectrum, parents of LGBTQ children, LGBTQ individuals, children of LGBTQ parents, and other family members and allies. It is held on the first weekday of June, not only because it is the start of Pride Month, but also because it sits between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, honoring all parents but also highlighting that not all families fit into the traditional structure of one mother and one father.

The day was founded by the award-winning LGBTQ parenting site Mombian in 2006 (originally as Blogging for LGBTQ Families Day) and is sponsored by nonprofits Family Equality, PFLAG National, GLAAD, GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD Law), the Human Rights Campaign, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, COLAGE, and GWK Academy, and by businesses Gays With Kids, PregnantTogether, the Queer Family Podcast, Gay Moms Club, babyREADY, and OurShelves.
