After the 2024 election, many LGBTQ+ people have concerns about the security of our rights, including the protection of our relationships and families.

Our community and our marriages may be politicized in the days ahead, but marriage equality is a secure and deeply embedded institution in our country. It’s brought nothing but happiness and security to couples, families, and communities. Nevertheless, GLBTQ Legal Advocates & Defenders (GLAD Law) remains vigilant against attacks on our relationships and communities.

As you celebrate and enjoy your day, check out our resources on LGBTQ+ protections, for couples and families. Learn about the Massachusetts Parentage Act, a powerful new law that took effect January 1, 2025. It adds vital protections for LGBTQ+ families and ensures greater security for all Commonwealth families.

GLAD Law led the way for marriage equality in the years leading up to the Supreme Court case that nationally affirmed the right for same-gender couples to marry in 2015.

Mary Bonauto, GLAD Law Senior Director of Civil Rights and Legal Strategies, helmed the fight to secure marriage equality in Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Maine before arguing before the U.S. Supreme Court in Obergefell v. Hodges, which established marriage equality as the law of the land. We will continue fighting for our community and our families.

Congratulations and we look forward to staying in touch!
