GLAD Law Condemns Federal Investigation Into Smith College

The administration is not protecting women’s colleges; it is trying to control them.

It is absurd to use an exemption from Title IX for admissions to undermine women’s colleges’ ability to set their own policies. The Department of Education’s announced investigation of Smith College is patronizing and profoundly offensive. It claims to defend women while pressuring women’s colleges to abandon their values and cave to political ideology.

Smith and sister colleges were created to empower and educate by building institutions run by and for women, not to have federal officials dictate the meaning of women’s education from Washington.

This administration is pushing an idea of sex that would ultimately not have women attend college at all.
